What is the difference between Californian, Brazilian and Hollywood Waxing?

Waxing. The word alone is enough to make your eyes water. Some people love it, some people loathe it and some are merely inquisitive about the whole waxing phenomena.

In the past we used to worry away in private about what was best when it came back to personal grooming. But it’s the 21st Century and women have taken back control. Whether you want to go au natural, have it all stripped off, or try out something in between, there are numerous options for styling your hair down there. But the terminology can be confusing - so what’s the difference between a Californian, Brazilian and Hollywood Wax?

The Californian Wax (aka The High Bikini or Extended Bikini)

This wax removes the band of hair that runs along your outer pant line and top of the legs, and generally you can customise how high you would like to go. And good news - if you are easily embarrassed, you'll be pleased to know that many beauticians have disposable pants you can wear.

Brazilian Wax

This is arguably the most popular of all waxes, particularly for holidays or anything that might involve stripping off. The Brazilian removes hair from the top and sides of the bikini line, but also the whole way under and around the back. Yep, you’re hearing us right, it includes your bum. If you’re not feeling brave enough yet, go for the French or Landing Strip, which leaves a band of hair that runs from front to back.

Hollywood
How bare do you dare? In this case, you’re saying farewell to it all. By the end of your wax, you’ll be completely bare, front and back. your best option if you’re looking to wear minimal/no underwear, or if you just want to feel what it’s like to be totally hairless. Pubic primping at its boldest.

Will it Hurt

For anyone that has braved a wax before, you’ll know it’s going to hurt a little, regardless of the style you opt for. But pop a painkiller around half an hour before you go, and where possible use a Lycon wax professional. Lycon wax 'shrink wraps' around the hair so it gets closer to the hair root, causing less pain. This also means that it can remove hair as short as 1mm, and is usually a more comfortable experience due to lower wax temperatures.

So if it’s your first time, or you’re looking for a less hair-raising experience (excuse the pun), then Lycon waxing is definitely the way to go.
